Wernick new energy efficient site accommodation range

Wernick Hire, the UK’s largest independent hirer of portable and modular accommodation, haswernick launched a new range of energy efficient accommodation units, proven to be up to 69% more energy efficient than standard site accommodation. Such is the demand for Wernick Hire’s new GreenSpace Eco accommodation units, several blue chip construction companies have already placed long-term hires. Interest in the new units has increased since the government announced plans to reduce carbon from the construction and operation of the UK’s infrastructure assets, in line with climate change commitments.

The ‘Infrastructure Carbon Review’ sets out a series of actions for government, clients and suppliers to reduce up to 24 million tonnes of carbon and save the UK £1.46 billion a year by 2050.

Event Production and Confex to collocate from next year

The Event Production Show and International Confex are to collocate at London’s Olympia in 2015.event_production The shows will take place next year on 18 and 19 February, say organisers Mash Media. The decision follows extensive research with visitors and exhibitors at both shows. Event director of the Event Production Show and International Confex, Donna Bushell, said: "This is brilliant news for both brands and more importantly for the visitors and exhibitors to the shows. “We said from the beginning we wanted to give these events back to the industry, and through this move we’re giving them the gift of time and allowing them to enjoy the experience of two major exhibitions, in one location, during an intensive two-day period."

ID&C new South American partnership

ID&C Ltd, the global market leader in RFID wristbands and credentials for live events, and PasseVIP, Brazil’s largest security wristband provider have announced a strategic partnership that will see the latest RFID wristband technology reach South America’s expanding live entertainment sector. The partnership follows a successful RFID wristband deployment at the Rock in Rio festival last summer, where 40,000 of ID&C’s RFID wristbands were used for contactless payments and access control. Since launching its RFID wristbands at the Coachella Festival in 2011, ID&C has gone on to supply more than 3.5 million RFID products to live events around the world including in 2013, The UEFA Champions Festival, Rock in Rio, Bonnaroo and British Summer Time.

Blackout at the National Television Awards

Blackout provided extensive draping for this year’s star studded National Television Awards (NTAs)blackout_NTA held at the O2 Arena, 22nd January 2014. Broadcast live on ITV1 and hosted by Dermot O’Leary, the glittering ceremony saw TV’s biggest stars out in force for the 19th annual event. The evening saw Coronation Street steal the show, taking home the serial Drama Award and Geordie duo Ant and Dec triumphed, picking up a handful of gongs, including the Entertainment Presenter Award for the 13th consecutive year. Contracted by NTA producers Indigo Television, Blackout installed black wool serge drapes 82 metres wide with an 18 metre drop, to create the desired effect for the TV broadcast. The drapes were shaped around the large 19m by 9.5m screen, which was the focal point of the show, with additional drapes used to mask off the arena to create the environment for the spectacular production.

Andy Cotton wins ‘Production Manager of the Year’ award

Andy Cotton of TAO Productions was honoured with the Award of “Production Manager of the Year”andy_cotton at the recent 2014 TPI Awards Dinner. The award, sponsored by EFM Event Logistics and presented by Radio 6 presenter and Fun Lovin’ Criminals frontman Huey Morgan, was presented following voting by the industry for international production manager of the year and was presented in front of over 1,000 global live production luminaries.

The 2014 TPI Awards Dinner, held at Novetel West, Hammersmith, London on Monday 10th February, recognises those who have achieved the very best in practices, standards and status in the World of Live Events and Productions. The award coincides with TAO Productions coming Runners Up in the “Best Production Team” category at The Event Production Awards 2014 at Earls Court 2 the following night. His award winning year has included working with Mumford and Sons at their Gentlemen of the Road Stopovers and Stampedes; The xx in Lisbon, Berlin and London on their ‘Night and Day’ festivals, and seven shows with Sir Cliff Richard outdoors at some of the UK’s most impressive country homes. 2013 also saw Andy Cotton contracted as Production Manager for The Eden Sessions which featured Sigur Ros, Jessie J, Eddie Izzard, Kaiser Chiefs, The xx and Nils Rogers and Chic. After a fantastic year in 2013, TAO Productions are also shortlisted for four awards at The NOEA Awards 2014 to be announced in March, “Event Organiser of the Year”; “Best Practice Award”; “Production Partnership Award” (With The xx) and with The Gentlemen of the Road Festival, Lewes, nominated for “Best Festival over 15,000”.

Showsec wins Bloodstock contract

Showsec looks set to play a key role in the continued growth of the United Kingdom’s largest dedicated heavy metal festival after securing a new three-year contract. The crowd management and security specialists have welcomed the opportunity to cement their relationship with Bloodstock Open Air Festival as plans take shape for the event which will once again take place at Catton Park in Derbyshire in August. Bloodstock Open Air has achieved impressive growth year-on-year and this has been recognised with the event being voted Best Medium Sized Festival at the 2012 UK Festival Awards and then being given a similar accolade at the 2013 Live UK Music Awards. “We are delighted to be offered this chance to play our part in a continuation of Bloodstock’s success story,” said Joe Milner, Showsec’s East Midlands Area Manager.

Manchester Central retains top sustainable status with new initiatives

Manchester Central has announced a range of new green initiatives after retaining its position asmanchester_central one of the most sustainable major venues in the UK. The North of England’s leading events, exhibition and conference venue has been reaccredited for ISO 20121 – the international standard for sustainability. It first was awarded the status in January 2013, following a year of sustainable measures that included reducing energy bills, recycling food waste and changing team behaviour.
