TESA Guideance Notes

The TESA Event Guidance Notes have been developed to assist event organisers who are TESA Members both in creating a safe environment for the public and employees as well as in meeting their obligations in terms of health, safety and good practice.

The guidance notes have been compiled so that they can be used to easily create a reference file bespoke to each event which can be retained for inspection, if required, or used as evidence of 'due diligence'.

The various risk assessments referred to in this document should be used for the event as well as for any activity during the build up and take down periods.

Enforcement in the case of 'events' is likely to be conducted by the Local Authority’s Environmental Health Department under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Food Safety Act 1990. It will be noted that reference is made to Local Authorities within this document and it should be emphasised that liaison is critical.

This document has been primarily developed for safety purposes but consideration should also be given to elements such as licences and employment law which are covered in brief.

Whilst every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of the information contained in this publication, which has been compiled through extensive research, it is intended as a guidance rather than complete reference source. No responsibility or liability can be accepted by the publishers, J&M Group Ltd. by their staff, The Event Services Association or contractors for any errors, omissions or consequential loss incurred through the use of the information contained herein.

It should be noted that legislation may have changed since this document was compiled and that authorities and courts may similarly have redefined their interpretations of regulations. Users should therefore satisfy themselves that the guidelines are both accurate and current before applying them. It is the responsibility of the event organiser to verify this information and no liability shall be accepted either by the Authors or the Publisher in the event of reliance being placed upon such information, nor for any damage or injury arising from any interpretation of its contents.
